Patrick McCabe of the site WANbully (and SE for a major networking equipment vendor) had a chance to play with a Netropy WAN emulator and compare it to the freeware he previously used. Read his great Hands-On report here: http://wp.me/p76LRq-2q.
If you’ve got some WAN testing to perform and the budget to get some tools, get this solution.
Besides the obvious ease-of-use and set-up advantages to the Netropy product, Patrick highlighted the accuracy difference: “I’ve used other tools in the past and one of my biggest frustrations was the tools not accurately emulating the latency/congestion it is configured for. This is where the Apposite gear shines. Everything I configured on the Netropy was emulated exactly as configured. It made my lab environment extremely stable and a lot less brittle.”
As we always say, a test tool that gives wrong results is worse than useless, which is why we focus on ensuring the accuracy of our emulators.
Patrick summarized his results by saying: “If you’ve got some WAN testing to perform and the budget to get some tools, get this solution. It will decrease the time it takes to evaluate vendor technologies in a lab and give you more consistency when comparing vendors.”
